FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, USA  (January 23, 2024) - San Antonio Runners SC has entered into an affiliation with Mission City Youth Soccer Organization/San Antonio Soccer Academy, featuring the launch of comprehensive Runners programming at Mission City Soccer Complex, located at 2600 Red Hill Ln. Open tryouts for men, women, and youth programs will be announced over the coming weeks.

“We are thrilled to unite with Jose Martinez and Gabriel Navarrete in serving Mission City and the growing South Texas communities with equal access to professional training at reasonable rates.” SA Runners Executive Director, Mason Rankin said. “This relationship with Mission City will provide more educational opportunities for boys and girls in the San Antonio and South Texas region and will allow us to combine resources, positively affecting socioeconomic growth in the under served areas south of San Antonio. We all agree this new partnership will create more educational and professional development experiences that are highly needed, and I am excited to be at a location that gives us the ability to have a greater impact across South Texas."

The affiliation will enhance the operations and sustainability of Mission City Soccer Complex while also providing a full development pathway for local players.

Additionally, the affiliation with Mission City will allow Runners to expand opportunities for boys and girls from U4-U19 in the Recreational, Junior Academy, Select and Elite programs for players from all over South Texas, including San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley. Beyond local participation for all youth players, the joint venture will also push to field national and regional league teams in support of South Texas at the professional level.

Mission City YSO will continue its participation in South Texas Youth Soccer by fielding teams within Alamo Area Youth Soccer Association, which are supported by Mission City FC teams in the U13-U19 age groups. San Antonio Runners men and women senior teams will play home games at Cibolo Multi - Event Center located at 210 S. Main St. in Cibolo, TX and continue participation in top national and regional leagues such as the United Premier Soccer League for men and women with the addition of Mission City Runners in the UPSL Youth Divisions this Spring 2024.

“We are extremely excited about the new affiliation with San Antonio Runners,” said Mission City YSO Director Gabriel Navarrete. “It is a great pleasure having an established program like SA Runners partner with Mission City to consolidate resources and increase professional development opportunities for all in our South Texas region. This joint venture will bring top tier training to the youth of south side San Antonio and the surrounding counties, offering a clear pathway to play soccer with the ability to advance from recreational, to select and then higher through the men and women Premier teams. The success SA Runners has had in bringing attention to, and promoting local players will provide Mission City players, parents, and coaches support in increasing college and professional signings.”

Players and teams interested in joining Runners at the UPSL Youth Academy levels are encouraged to register immediately for the upcoming tryout dates below:

About the United Premier Soccer League

Founded in 2011, the United Premier Soccer League now stands as the largest and most competitive pro-development league in North America. Today the league has nearly 400 clubs competing across the US and over 100 in Mexico. The 2022 Spring Men's Premier Division saw 255 clubs competing for 32 places in the National Playoff Bracket to become National Champion.

The league occupies the 4th tier of the US Soccer pyramid, just below the three professional tiers in the pyramid. With a participant average age of 22.5 years, the UPSL fills and brings structure to the large gap that exists between the youth game and the professional game, serving thousands of aspiring players and coaches as they strive to further their aspirations and fuel their passions.
