SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (April, 2, 2023) - Kicking off their 5th season in the United Premier Soccer League last night, San Antonio Runners men’s team (0-0-1) played Corinthians FC SA UPSL (1-0-0) at Corinthians home field at San Antonio Christian High School this Saturday night. 

 

With Runners starting kickoff, Corinthians won the ball played and played in a cross from #9 to #21 who scored in the first minute. No other goals were scored in the first half.

 

Corinthians scored in the 85 min, after Runners failed to recover on the quick transition with #4 scoring from a shot inside the box.

 

The evenly matched, high-intensity game was handled well by the match officials with the only yellow card of the game being handed to Corinthians #8.

 

Of 14 shots on goal made by Corinthians, 11 were blocked by Runners starting keeper Dominic Florio.

 

In addition to many injuries and subs on both sides, 10 minutes of stoppage was added to the match. Around 5 minutes later the lights went out.  During this time, Runners subbed in 17 year old Dylan Reetz. Reetz came off the line and ran out of the box to get a long ball, but was scored on by a kick placed around him from the the top of the box with nobody covering the goal. 

 

The final score of the match was a 3-0 loss. 

 

SA Runners will host the rematch against Corinthians FC SA at the Cibolo Multi-Event Center in Cibolo, TX  on Friday, April 14 at 7:30pm 

 

The next Runners game will be Thursday, April 6 at S.T.A.R Soccer Complex against San Antonio FC Pro Academy.
