WAIPAHU – The Hawai'i Pacific University women's soccer team, earned their first win of the year 1-0 against Chaminade University Tuesday afternoon at Waipio Soccer Complex.
The Sharks (1-3-2) broke through for their first win against the crosstown Silverswords (3-2), who dropped their second contest in a row.
The match began as a defensive battle with both team keepers combining for nine saves. It wasn't until the 55th minute that HPU broke the tie. After charging into the offensive zone, senior defender Katie Pothier found freshman teammate Kalea Ajel for her first career collegiate goal.
Junior goalkeeper Madi DePhillips carded her first clean sheet of the year, where she snagged seven saves along the way.
The Sharks return to Waipio next Monday to begin conference play. HPU hosts the Academy of Art starting at 4:30 p.m.
