UPSL Welcomes Somerset SC to Central Conference

The Colony (Texas)-Based Club Opens Its Second UPSL Season This Saturday

September 5, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to welcome the return of Somerset Soccer Club as a league member for the 2019 Fall Season.

Based in The Colony (Texas), Somerset SC plays in the UPSL Central Conference North Division III, and currently hosts its UPSL home games at Green Hill School (4141 Spring Valley Road, Addison, TX 75001) in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards.

Somerset SC travels to play Arlington FC II on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at R.L. Anderson Stadium (1016 Magnolia Street, Mansfield, TX 76063). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT. Tickets and parking are free.

United Premier Soccer League National Director Matt Kahla said, "Mr. and Mrs. Weekes are just some of the coolest people on the planet. Their passion for the game and compassion for young athletes has created a place for players to thrive. Mr. Weekes seeks to embolden players to play the right way, and 'Mama Weekes' keeps them grounded. They're also a family of referees, so they have a great perspective.  They're a tremendous soccer power couple, and we wish them the best of luck in North Division III this season."

Peter Weekes is President and Head Coach of Somerset SC. A native of Barbados, Weekes helped form Somerset SC as an amateur player in New York in 1973 before moving the club to Texas in 1995. He incorporated Somerset SC in 2012, previously competing in the Texas Premier Soccer League (US Club Soccer).

Somerset SC President Peter Weekes said, "Last season we had teams in both the UPSL and the TPSL, but this season we're going to only play in the UPSL, focus more on the UPSL and really get organized. There were a lot of things that we have to catch up to in the UPSL, so we want to make sure we have everything organized and really become a part of the UPSL because this club has come from the Caribbean to The Colony. This club has come a long way across these years, but now I finally feel like we have a home. The UPSL is our home."

Sharon Weekes serves as General Manager of Somerset SC. Born in Jamaica but raised in London near Tottenham Hotspur FC's home ground at White Hart Lane, Mrs. Weekes is a former indoor player better known as 'Mama Weekes' to the players of Somerset SC.

The club soon will announce its roster and upcoming game schedule.
