UPSL Announces East Texas Expansion with Tyler Football Club

Founded in 2016, Tyler (Texas)-Based Pro Development Club Joins UPSL
Published Aug 15, 2019

August 15, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announces Tyler Football Club as a member kicking off with the 2019 Fall Season.

Based in the Capitol of East Texas, Tyler Football Club will begin UPSL play in the Central Conference Division II and host its UPSL homes games at Bristo Soccer Fields (16645 Old Chandler Hwy, Tyler TX 75709) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League National Director Matt Kahla said, "It's an exciting time to have a veteran team like Tyler FC come into the league. Once again, this is another benefit for all players and clubs who play in the UPSL where you can continue development even in the Fall and Winter months. It'll be great to see what Chris Avila and Tyler can do, and we wish them the best of luck as they prepare for the Fall Season."

Tyler FC recently completed its third season in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Lone Star Conference.

Chris Avila is President of Tyler FC. A native of Tyler (Texas), Avila is a local business owner.

Tyler FC President Chris Avila said, "The UPSL all of a sudden became this huge thing and seemingly overnight there's 300 teams. That definitely caught my attention. What I like about the UPSL, and what sealed the deal for us, is the fact that there's a Fall Season available. We can't be dormant 6-, 7-, 8-months out of the year and still expect people to remember who we are. That's very difficult. We have a lot of local players on our team, and we don't have the same rhythm when we're only training 3 months of the year. We're going to keep our players focused and playing through the Fall Season so we'll be in better form, and I think it just makes sense for us to be playing in the UPSL."

Tyler (Texas) native Jason Martinez, 30, serves as Vice President of Tyler FC. Zac Cool, 31, serves as Chief Financial Officer. The club is operated by a board of directors.

The club also operates Tyler FC Academy, a vertically-integrated non-profit youth club featuring competitive and recreational teams for players in Texas' Golden Triangle. The club serves hundreds of youth players every year.

The club soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
