UPSL Announces Texas Expansion with Athletic Houston FC

Houston (Texas)-Based Pro Development Club Joins UPSL for Fall Season

June 11, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Athletic Houston FC as a new league member kicking off with the 2019 Fall Season.

Based in the Capital of the Sunbelt, Athletic Houston FC will begin play in the UPSL Championship Central Conference, and will host its UPSL home games at the Matias Almeyda Training Center (4211 Clow Road, Houston, TX 77068) in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League National Director Matt Kahla said, "We are excited to welcome Athletic Houston FC to the UPSL Championship Central Conference. Chris Moreno was one of the original owners of Atletico Katy, and he's getting started again in the UPSL Championship in order to help grow young talent. Chris is a go-getter, a great fit for the UPSL and I am really excited to get to work with him again. We look forward to seeing Athletic Houston FC get on the field, and we wish the club the best as it prepares for its inaugural season in the UPSL Championship Central Conference South Division."

Chris Moreno is Owner and Head Coach of Athletic Houston FC. A native of Katy (Texas), Moreno holds a CONCACAF 'E' Coaching License and is currently working toward his USSF 'D' Coaching License. Formerly co-owner of Atletico Katy (NPSL) and owner of Katy Tigres (UPSL), Moreno is studying toward a degree in Sports Management at Houston (Texas)'s Lone Star College.

Athletic Houston FC Owner and Head Coach Chris Moreno said, "I'm excited to return to the UPSL with Athletic Houston FC. This is a team that will have a good mix of young and experienced players, so I'm ready to take this team forward and enter into the UPSL Championship tier."

Athletic Houston FC will host tryouts at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14 at Cullen Park (19008 Saums Road, Houston, TX 77084). The club will announce its upcoming game schedule.

Athletic Houston FC is an American Soccer club currently based in Houston, Texas, a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. Athletic Houston FC will play in the UPSL Central Conference.

Founded in 2019, Athletic Houston FC can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 400-plus teams targeted for 2019 Fall Season. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards.

UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
